We are seeking a Medical Technologist to perform test analysis on patient specimens including blood, urine, culture samples and other body fluids. Performs test analysis on quality control samples, proficiency samples and performs equipment maintenance.
In this position you will:
Demonstrates age specific patient care considerations for the population served.
Demonstrates application of knowledge, skills, and behaviors in the physical, motor/sensory, cognitive, psychosocial, patient and family education areas based on PRMCE age specific care competency assessment tool.
Performs test analysis on patient specimens.
Evaluates integrity of specimen, follows up on unacceptable specimens, and performs requested testing, follow-up studies, dilutions, calculation, antibody ID, and organism work-up as necessary.
Work documents and the communicating of “criticals and stats” are completed according to dept guidelines.
Performs and evaluates analysis of quality control, proficiency specimens, and patient statistics.
Test quality control specimens; documents and troubleshoots to resolve issues with quality control according to policy.
Test proficiency specimens on shift received according to lab procedure.
Maintains and Troubleshoots equipment.
Resolves issues with instrumentation using resources at hand and /or calling the appropriate hotline in a timely manner.
Documents activity and communicates appropriately to the next shift.
Informs the Emergency department and other appropriate areas of any possible delays.
Performs and documents all regular maintenance performed.
Organizes and prioritizes work to maintain laboratory standards.
Consistently meets expected turnaround times.
Consistently leaves work area clean, organized and ready for the next shift.
Identifies unexpected results, errors and problems and follows up.
Reviews batches of patient tests and identifies the issues to be addressed.
Correlates laboratory results with pathologic and physiologic states to determine whether follow up should be done to confirm aberrant results.
Follows up as appropriate.
Communication and mentoring.
Serves as a resource or mentor to MLTs, Phlebotomist/Processors, Client Services, non-technical lab staff, and Nursing staff.
Communicates all essential information to the next shift prior to leaving for the day.
Communicate with TQS, Supervisors, Managers, and Pathologists as appropriate.
Keeps up to date with all policy/procedure changes and with leadership communications.
Required qualifications for this position include:
Must be ASCP or ASCPi licensed as a Medical Technologist or Medical Laboratory Scientist or have technologist/scientist certification in the department that the individual will be trained. ASCP licensure attained after 1-1-04 must be renewed every 3 years through ASCP CMP. ASCP licensure attained prior to 1-1-04 requires no renewal. If eligible to sit for the ASCP/ASCPi exam, the employee must receive ASCP/ASCPi within six months of hire.
