Providence is calling a Coder Abstractor II (1.0 FTE, DAY SHIFT) to the HIM Coding Abstracting NWR Department at Providence Regional Medical Center Everett in Everett, WA.

The Coder Abstractor II is responsible for the coding/abstracting of acute care services, which may include inpatient, outpatient surgery and/or other outpatient services, and/or ED encounters (including charging-related functions such as E/M levels & charges) in accordance with all regulatory requirements, official, authoritative coding sources (e.g., official coding guidelines), and all facility requirements.
In this position you will:
Appropriately and accurately identifies/assigns codes according to the appropriate classification system for the category of the patient encounter. Completes patient discharge case abstracts
Demonstrates strong verbal and written communication skills
Maintains professional growth and development
Participates in all staff meetings and mandatory in-services and training programs as well as unit/department performance improvement activities.
Identifies role and responsibility in complying with facility and unit specific safety and security policies, plans and procedures
Effectively and efficiently manages and meets essential functions, responsibilities and requirements of the position with an appropriate level of independence.
Qualifications:
Required qualifications for this position include:
Associate's Degree and/or higher degree in a healthcare related program
Accreditation as a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), or Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA)
ANY ONE of the following hospital/acute care related AHIMA or AAPC coding credentials:
CASCC
CEDC
CIC
COC
CPC
CCA
CCS
One (1) year acute hospital based coding experience – inpatient, ED, or ASU
Preferred qualifications for this position include:
Associate's Degree in a program related to Health Information Management or Health Information Technology
Graduate of an AHIMA accredited Health Information Technology or Health Information Management program or self-study course
A passing score on the national certification examination for RHIA or RHIT Associate degree in Health Information Technology
CPC-H
CCS certification
One (1) year hospital based HIM department background experience or experience through practicum of an AHIMA accredited Health Information Technology or Health Information Management program
