Providence Chief Administrative Officer in Everett, Washington

THE ROLE

The Chief Administrative Officer will report to the Chief Executive-Providence Swedish North Puget Sound Service Area, and in close collaboration with executive team will be accountable for day-to-day operations of quality, safety, caregiver engagement, provider engagement, financial performance, patient experience, surgical services and other clinical operations activities at Providence Regional Medical Center Everett, Swedish Edmonds Campus and Swedish Mill Creek Ambulatory Care Center. This will include responsibility for continuous improvement, assessing, planning, developing, and applying business analytics to solve problems. This position will have direct and indirect responsibilities for both clinical and nonclinical service lines, including but limited to clinical support services, shared services and real estate departments. This role will represent administration to facility leaders and medical staff. In addition, this role will be responsible for the integration strategy and implementation of the Everett, Edmonds and Mill Creek Facilities within the North Puget Sound Service Area as well as senior leadership labor support for Providence Regional Medical Center Everett, Edmonds and Mill Creek in concert with those CBAs, as required. In partnership with the CE, the Chief Administrative Officer will build and maintain relationships with community and business leaders in Edmonds, including with Verdant and the District 2 Health commissioners as well as other similar bodies in Everett and Mill Creek.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Direct and administer assigned functions to ensure high quality cost-effective patient services, which meet or surpass regulatory standards. Develop, modify and implement patient care standards, policies, procedures and protocols in collaboration with the hospital staff.

  • Leads and coaches team on their annual departmental objectives and periodic progress reports. Optimizes appropriate utilization of resources and stewardship.

  • Oversees compliance with organizations objectives and goals. Provides coaching and counseling to leaders on maintaining and meeting financial, quality safety, and engagement goals.

  • Develop, implement and monitor annual operating budgets.

  • Support and develop managers and staff to assure departmental effectiveness and efficiency.

  • Ensure ethical and moral perspective to safeguard the rights of staff, patients, the medical staff and the institution. Consistently combines ethical judgment, professional skills, and the policies of Swedish and legal parameter in decision making.

  • Manage both clinical and non-clinical service lines.

  • Caregivers must engage in safe work and practices and report all unsafe work conditions.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's Degree in a Related field of study.

  • Master's Degree (Master of Business Administration/MHA/MSN, Public Administration); or equivalent educ/experience.

  • 8 years of experience in leading complex regional organizations.

  • 3 years of experience in healthcare operations.

  • 1 year of experiencing leading in a union environment.

  • 2 years of experience leading perioperative and procedural service lines.

  • Ability to lead the operational management of complex organizations through transition and growth within a complex, matrixed organization.

  • Establish organizational structures and management systems to achieve administrative and clinical integration across the continuum of care.

  • Strong working knowledge of hospital operations, financial management, cost analysis, information systems and nursing operations.

  • Understanding of physician compensation design and trends.

  • Understands accounting and annual budget process including capital investments.

  • Broad knowledge of the trends in health care and their implications.

  • Leadership experience with physicians and demonstrated ability to work with physician leaders.

  • Ability to lead and educate others through the process of change.

  • Ability to provide credible oversight to management team.

  • Excellent problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple stake holders including Caregivers, Physicians, Leadership positions and Support Staff.

  • Problem solver who involves others in key decisions and assures timely decisions are made.

  • Ability to establish relationships with diverse groups.

  • Strong communication and good listening skills.

  • Experience in continuous improvement methodologies.
